Mentor TennisSee links college-age mentors with younger students from disadvantaged communities.  The program meets three times weekly for two and a half hours, and consists of three principal activities:

Using the Grips Program instructional model, Mentor TennisSee provides a roadmap for enhanced physical fitness and tennis proficiency.  Each participant is assigned to a specific Davis Cup team (with a college student leader as team captain), and each team competes for points towards incentives (including t-shirts, racquets, trips to Vanderbilt and Nashville athletic events, etc).  In addition to amateur coaches, local tennis professionals and NCAA Division I college coaches assist with player development.

Each participant is assigned a specific tutor on a specific day of the week.  Mentor TennisSee aspires to maintain a 1:1 student to tutor ratio whenever possible.  Tutors assist students with their homework and with basic skill enhancement in preparation for state standardized testing.  Tutors and program leaders maintain regular communication with their assigned student’s teachers, parents, and guidance counselors.  Tutors log each student's progress at the end of each session.

Through a partnership with First Serve, Mentor TennisSee has access to the most comprehensive sports-based life skills program ever developed.  The First Serve Life Skills program divides 18 life skills into three levels (Game, Set and Match), with four instructional units per skill. Students have the opportunity to participate in the First Serve National Student Athlete Competition, which provides up to $34,000 in college scholarships annually.
